Gem Series #2 – Get over yourself

No sugar coating and clear directness –  turns out this is the type of language that draws me in and makes my senses tingle. Which brings me to gem # 2, Mark Manson’s book “The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck”. Probably the best self help, eye opening book I have read so far. At first the title appealed to me hitting the current pain spot (i.e. giving too much of a fuck about anything and everything).  So I thought why not, it may help you find some answers and solve some problems.

It offers so much more that just what the title proclaims. It shows you a complete different perspective of all aspects of life. The way he writes flows freely, the language used is colloquial and almost like Sunday catch ups with a friend. The stories provided as examples are marvellous and entertaining and really helps the concepts to stick. I often find self help material can become a little dry and over bearing at times, but this one was a pretty easy read. Depending on what is happening around you, each individual will get something different out of this book and it caters for all, bringing upon a humble approach.

The ones that will stick:

“A person who actually has a high self-worth is able to look at the negative parts of his character frankly”

“Life is about not knowing and then doing something anyway. All of life is like this. It never changes. Even when you’re happy. Even when you’re farting fairy dust. Even when you win the lottery and buy a small fleet of Jet Skis, you still won’t know what the hell you’re doing. Don’t ever forget that. And don’t ever be afraid of that.”

“There are some experiences that you can have only when you’ve lived in the same place for five years, when you’ve been with the same person for over a decade, when you’ve been working on the same skill or craft for half your lifetime.”
